In another vein, Hanson’s published poetry and public readings have earned her invitations to read for Maine’s governor at Blaine House in Augusta, Maine, Longfellow Days in Brunswick, Maine, as well as at the Potpourri Annual Awards in Kansas City, Missouri, after winning their annual award in 2001. As a teacher and consultant Hanson helps others to publish their writings through the University of Maine System’s Continuing Education department and several Maine adult education programs. She also consults with private groups, among them the Design Group at Bath Iron Works in Bath, Maine and the nurses at Brunswick’s Mid Coast Hospital, for whom she has taught public speaking.
